Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1)

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) - Susan Ee Okay, first off, I just want to say, if you are a fan of the TV show Supernatural, this book is probably going to be a “must-read” for you.Angelfall tells the story of Penryn Young, a seventeen year old girl living in a post-apocalyptic world. Angels(yes, those Heavenly beings) have destroyed the world all because their leader, Gabriel, was shot and killed. Now humans not only live in fear of these angels, but also of the street gangs that roam the cities, seeking anything they can get their greedy hands on.The story starts with Penryn deciding to move her family - a disabled, wheelchair bound younger sister and a paranoid schizophrenic mother - to a new location, as the street gangs have been getting closer and closer to where they’ve been hiding out.Thinking she would have more luck in the daytime, Penryn and her mother carry Paige and her wheelchair down a few flights of stairs until they reach the outside. On their way to their new location, something unexpected and terrifying occurs: a group of angels lands only mere feet away from Penryn and her family, but their attention is focused on another angel.Penryn watches as the group attacks the other angel and manages to cut off his snowy white wings, leaving him there to die on the street. But attention is then drawn to Penryn and her sister(their mother ran off when the angels came down), and before Penryn can do anything, the group of angels snatch her sister and take to the sky.Knowing the only chance of getting her sister back is to keep the mutilated angel on the sidewalk alive, she stows him and his wings in her sister’s wheelchair and takes off into hiding. What happens next is the story of one girl’s journey through California to find the angel’s “aerie” and hopefully save her sister. Her companion? The angel she saved. Along the way, Penryn and Raffe, as he tells her to call him, encounter a street gang, a military resistance group, and creatures they call “low demons”.And the one thing Penryn never expected to have happen, actually does. Now the last 15% or so of this book may be a little…disheartening to some readers, but I won’t say anything because I refuse to spoil that. I actually got a little teary-eyed while reading it. All I can say is, I really, really need the second book to come out this year. I am dying to know what will happen next.Seriously, this is one of my new favorite books. I highly recommend it to everyone. Go and pick up a copy now and read it! You won’t regret it!
